Calicut Marathon

This year, Calicut Mini-Marathon is to be held on 28th February, 2016, Sunday. The theme for the seventh edition is ‘Compassionate Kozhikode’.

Started in 2010, Calicut Mini Marathon has been able to reach its current stature in a matter of just six years primarily due to the patronage that we receive from people from all walks of life, believing in the causes that we do. The uniqueness of the Calicut Mini-Marathon lies in the fact that each edition has espoused a social cause and elicits social awareness and responsibility from all whose lives the marathon touches -Be the change, Transforming Lives, War on Waste, Gift a Life, Empowering Women and Road Safety being our themes so far. We have had the privilege of having eminent personalities such as Mr. P. Sainath, Actor-Director Revathy, Actor Jayaram, Actor-Director Vineet Sreenivasan, Mr Shashi Tharoor and Mr. Jayaprakash Narayan pledge their support for the social causes upheld by the past editions of Calicut Marathon. With this strong social footing, Mini-Marathon has grown from strength to strength over the years. Calicut Mini-Marathon’15 saw participation from over 5000 runners who ran together for spreading awareness and attitude change among the people of Calicut towards Road Safety.

With Rs. 2 lakhs in prize money, the 10k mini-marathon, will begin at 6:00 AM from Calicut Beach. The marathon also features Dream Run’- a 3 km non-competitive run open to people from all walks of life.

This year, Calicut Mini-Marathon is to be held on 28 February, 2016, Sunday . The theme for the seventh edition is ‘Compassionate Kozhikode’.

The collective consciousness of a place is as important as our own individual consciousness. Kozhikode over the years has captured the imagination of the public when it comes to its warmth, hospitality and compassion. An often highlighted example of 'Kozhikodan' characteristic is the typical auto driver story we constantly hear. The drivers are known for their honesty and hospitality. They are famously known to advice you as a passenger to take a public bus because it’s one tenth the price and the frequency is better. We have seen socially responsible youngsters in Palliative Care Units helping the ailing patients.

A District administration initiative to celebrate the people of Kozhikode and their togetherness, Compassionate Kozhikode aims to touch lives through a plethora of initiatives. By bringing together socially conscious individuals keen on contributing towards the betterment of society, the movement will take new leaps with the mini Marathon. To know more about Compassionate Kozhikode, visit the page:

We are also partnering with the Niravu Vengeri team to do various events in Kozhikode city that will bring upon a positive change to the city we are living in.
